Uncertainties

Could I leave this place?

Before I thought it was a no-brainer (I hate that phrase!,) but now I'm faced with it, it's a little tricky to know for sure. It's always a bit of a gamble, choosing a new job and leaving familiarity. But then, there's getting too comfortable and I think that's what's starting to happen here. By having a manager who doesn't care, it has rubbed off onto me, draining my enthusiasm and it's causing my own standards to slip as each month goes by.

I know this place is safe and secure, the pay is pretty good for what I do and I know what's expected of me. But, there's no way for me to progress. Things won't change unless people leave but these people won't leave, so everything will stay the same and I'm already very tired of these things. I feel as though I'm settling, I'm not being challenged in any way and I work well under pressure - I miss it in some ways.

So, I've a Skype interview type thing with this recruiter tomorrow lunchtime. They want someone to start soon. Of course, I may go to the interview and they might not like me very much. But then, it could go well and I could be offered a position. It will work out to be a little less money each year which isn't great, but then it's a management role of a small team, which would be great experience. I feel as though that's worth more on paper than it is remaining here another year, I think I'll learn a lot more doing something different.

It's for a maternity clothing company, which doesn't exactly light my fire but it's all nice stuff and they're popular with celebrities and royalty - not that this adds to my enthusiasm for the brand. I understand it's an all female office too, which could be a little grating over time, but ah, maybe it would be okay?

I suppose it's important for me to remember that an interview is for me as much as it is for them too. I'll be able to ask questions and get a feel for the company, perhaps find out what some of the perks are too, which might help me in my decision process...that's if I get to that point of course! It's been a while, I'm a bit out of practice.
